Tourism Business in Laos: A Guide for Investors and Entrepreneurs
Update day: March 6 , 2025In July 2024, the Lao National Assembly enacted the amended Law on Tourism No. 63/NA to establish principles, regulations, and oversight measures ensuring the quality and sustainability of tourism across Laos. The law is designed to promote Laos as a modern, competitive travel destination while safeguarding its rich natural, cultural, and historical heritage. It also aims to bolster international tourism connections, enhance regional cooperation, and support sustainable, environmentally friendly economic growth. Under the law, tourism activities are categorized into three types: land-based (e.g., trekking, rock climbing, zip-lining, and cave exploration), water-based (e.g., boating, kayaking, diving, and rafting), and aerial tourism (e.g., hot air balloon rides, paramotor flights, and skydiving).
